Integrated Pest Management

The Lemon Fair Insect Control District is a municipal district comprised of three townships (Bridport, Weybridge and Cornwall) that was established in 2006 for the purpose of mosquito abatement. The district maintains a mosquito control program in collaboration with the Vermont Agency of Agriculture.  We take an integrated pest management approach, which is an ecosystem-based strategy that focuses on long-term prevention through a combination of techniques such as biological control, habitat manipulation, and modification of cultural practices. Larvicides are used only after monitoring indicates they are needed according to established guidelines, and treatments are made with the goal of removing only the target organism. Pest control materials are selected and applied in a manner that minimizes risks to human health, beneficial and nontarget organisms, and the environment.   Here is our public notice of intent to treat.
